Wagner Sessin Awards
Dear Colleagues,
Winners of the Wagner Sessin Award 2024:
Gustavo Madeira - Postdoctoral Researcher, Institut de Physique de Globe de Paris, IPGP, França - Dynamical and Planetary Astronomy
Rodolfo Batista Negri - Postdoctoral Researcher, UNIFESP - Orbital Mechanics and Control
The deadline for nominating candidates for the Wagner Sessin Awards is June 30, 2024. Please find detailed information at
http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~dinamica/premiows.htm
The Awards are for young researchers who have demonstrated a strong dedication to scientific or technological research and potential for leadership and have made notable contributions in one of the two selected areas: Orbital Mechanics and Control and Dynamical and Planetary Astronomy.
The scientific-technological contributions are characterized by articles published in indexed scientific journals, full articles published in arbitrated proceedings with strict selection criteria, theses defended, and notable technological contributions resulting from activities carried out mainly in Brazil.
The Awards will be presented at the opening session of CBDO 2024.
Past events
The Brazilian Colloquia on Orbital Dynamics (CBDO) take place every two years, since 1982. The first CBDO, held at ITA in July 1982, was organized at the initiative of Dr. Wagner Sessin, bringing together researchers from the fields of astronomy and orbital dynamics interested in problems of Pure and Applied Celestial Mechanics.
The first CBDO was titled: "Movements of Artificial Satellites: Theory, Determination, and Applications," and 51 researchers and postgraduates from all over Brazil participated. Since then, 20 editions of the CBDO have been held, with 4 of them at the National Institute for Space Research, such as the 2022 edition. Along with an impressive increase in the number of submitted works, the number of participants and the geographical scope of the event have also grown, reflecting the dissemination of works related to Astronomy and Space Activities in our country.
The participation of foreign researchers has been occurring since 1984, and the list of participations can be consulted at http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~dinamica/historic.htm..
